Today is Family Day, either a federal or provincial official holiday designed so families can take the day off to spend time together. I was wondering though: do we have to necessarily spend it with our own family or can we trade families and spend it with someone else's family? In any case, I don't think it really matters; I think most people are just glad to get a day off work and school. As for us, we're going to do what our family does best( other than being dysfunctional, fighting, being mentally disturbed, f*cked-up, etc) and that's eat! We're going out to eat later on today, only none of us can ever agree on where to go, on what kind of food we can all agree on, so we're splitting up into 3 smaller groups and going to 3 separate places: Chinese buffet( the 24 YR old and I) Pizza Hut (my hubby, mother, and the 11 YR old) and a burrito place( the girls).
I'm still not well yet, or even near fully recovered, but my hubby said this is a one-time offer; anyone who's NOT able to go out to the meal today just misses out; there are no do-overs, no remakes, no second-chances, no other rescheduled dates for those that are sick; you're just S.O.L and I don't want to miss my Chinese buffet.....no way, man, even if I'm bleeding out of my eyes I'm going....I do like pizza and pasta as well but NOT Pizza Hut as their pizza crust is also so greasy....ugh..and I do like Mexican food but now with my IBS I can't eat beans anymore, or anything that gives me gas as my symptoms flare up really bad, and so Chinese it is and I've always loved authentic Chinese food; not that Canadian-Chinese food crap they try to pass off as "Chinese" food, either, I mean the real thing; the real Chinese food like my Chinese friends used to cook and the kind you get in Chinatown....or in China.
It's kind of symbolic of our family though: even on Family Day our family's still not united but broken up in factions and everyone each goes his own way. We're like a divided empire.
