Orange Shirt Day.

Today is Orange Shirt Day also known as the Day of Truth And Reconciliation, a day to reflect on the victims and survivors of Canada's Residential School system, where Indigenous children were cruelly and systematically stolen from their families and communities by the gov't and church to be "assimilated" into English culture where they were abused and has the "Indian beaten out of them". They were physically, sexually, and psychologically abused every time they spoke their native languages or practiced their culture and this caused trauma for generations and still continues to this day. These abuses went on for over a hundred years and the scars and damage last to this day. It's just inexcusable and horrific and I just can't wrap my head around it or how anyone could ever try to "justify" it and why they'd even think that there's anything "wrong" with being Indigenous; why they'd even have to be assimilated; Native culture, language, heritage, and tradition is beautiful and full of rich history and culture and there's nothing "wrong" with it or to be ashamed of. It's nothing more than genocide what was done to them for generations, State and church sponsored genocide and nothing they can do can ever "make up" for it. It makes me ashamed of this country and is this shithole's biggest shame and disgrace. They were here first.

There's nothing about us without us.-Indigenous saying.
