The Journey
I sit here beside you, waiting for some sign,
To show me you are ready, to leave this world behind.
And just when I've decided,
today must be the day,
You raise your head, you wag your tail as if you want to play.
My heart fills with joy. It fairly bursts with hope .
But then your gaze grows distant. I feel that I can't cope.
Joy replaced by sadness, tears they fill my eyes. Stay with me forever, my broken spirit cries.
How long will it go on I think, this journey to the bridge,
Our unavoidable jouney's end lies beyond some distant ridge.
But for now I'll hold you, I'll stroke your velvet ears,
And whisper that I love you and will throughout the years.
For no matter how long to get there, I'll be by your side,
And gaze into your loving eyes to say our last goodbye.
