Autistic Outsider.

I found this on Quora and he's so exact, so right, and I can soooo relate to it,too.

You’re weird. Most people don’t like weirdos. It feels different and strange, and therefore threatening.

That’s it. That’s the whole answer.

Both

Monica Friedman and

Caleb Beers have written good, complimentary answers about this.

Monica Friedman's answer to As an autistic person, what do people have against me?

Caleb Beers's answer to As an autistic person, what do people have against me?

I want to add my two cents, though. I found out about a year ago that I’m autistic. I’m an adult. I was diagnosed at 37. But I accepted as a teenager that I’m weird. I’m weird and not everybody is going to like me. Because you don’t get to decide if you’re normal or weird, everybody else does.

I used to make myself miserable, much as both Caleb described, trying to fit in. But it wasn’t working well, and I didn’t get to do the things I enjoyed. So I just accepted that I’m weird, and did the things I liked.

Now, you don’t want to eschew all social norms. As Caleb said, the key is to pick your battles. Figure out what things, socially, are important to you, and learn how to do them. For example, I like girls. I wanted to talk to girls and not have them feel uncomfortable around me. And I always remembered what a female friend of mine said once, about how guys (not just weirdos like me, but guys in general) would trap girls to talk to them, and that she could never focus on the conversation, she just wanted to leave when that happened. Well, I wanted girls to listen when I talked, so I cultivated a habit of either approaching in her eyeline, or making some kind of noise to alert her I was there, and then to always, always, always make sure that she had some path of physical escape if she wanted. And I found that even if a particular gal wasn’t interested in talking to me, I generally didn’t make them feel unsafe, which was the point.

I learned the rules that helped me do the things I cared about, but I didn’t bother to learn every fucking rule that I didn’t care about. I’m still not great at reading social hierarchies without active attention, because I don’t care if someone thinks he’s BMOC, but I’m really good and figuring out who’s dangerous.

The other thing is, that once you accept that you’re weird, people will tend to self-select about being your friend. I have enough friends that I’m happy. They’re all weird in some fashion too, but they’re all interesting. They either don’t care about my weird, or it works for them in some way. I just had a friend ask me to teach her how to shoot and care for the firearms she just inherited. She knows I’m autistic, and she asked me to teach her one of my favorite topics, knowing that I will teach her everything if she lets me, because she wants to know. I’ve also been helping her figure out how to do better with her daughter, who is probably autistic too.

The point that I’m rambling on about (it’s late, I’m tired, please bear with me), is that a lot of people are really off-put by anything that is different. It’s a human evolutionary behavior. And while it would behoove you to make some degree of accommodation for the normies, you do not have to everything about yourself to suit them. You figure out which accommodations are reasonable for you, and which ones are not, and you’ll still be able to find friends who enjoy your company. Some of them will be neurodivergent in some way, and some won’t. I know it can feel overwhelming when you understand that you’re breaking some kind of social rule, but haven’t the faintest fucking idea what it is, and nobody will just tell you, but it’s not hopeless.

Don’t resign yourself to being a lifelong outcast. And understand that what most people who have something against you have nothing against you personally. It really feels personal, I know, but it’s not you as you that’s the “problem” it’s that you don’t fit neatly into whatever box they think you should that’s the problem, and that’s really a “them” problem not a “you” problem. Try not to let it bother you too much (hard, I know), and try to figure out what efforts of fitting in are worth your time and effort, and which aren’t.

Daily Pondering.

Das Ist Lecker.

It's officially Christmas season now: I got stollen and not just stollen but marzipan stollen! The best kind!Yumm! I loooove it!!! For those of you who don't know stollen is basically a German Christmas fruitcake and oddly enough even though I despise raisins(I think they're humiliated grapes) for some reason I don't really even notice when it's in stollen. It also doesn't really seem like Christmas without stollen and I can still fondly remember as well in grade 4 before school the Vice Principal would lead singing carols around the tree in the hall and it was so much fun! The 30 YR old's GF was also here yesterday because I saw an unknown small pair of women's shoes at the door and I told him tojust  let me know when he have company over just to make sure I'm not singing out loud and to make sure we keep the bathroom doors closed and so that no one's walking around naked, etc. I don't want her to know that we're weird. She'll find out soon enough. Odd,too: my hubby said he saw her even before the 30 YR old met her  at a party as he remembers her from the board games group from before!  The LTC home also called yesterday to tell me my mother's out of isolation so I guess after 24 HRS on antibiotics they figured she wouldn't be contagious anymore

Alot of Hollywood people are also leaving USA since Trump got elected and at first I just thought it was just in "protest" not wanting to endure 4 more years of him but now it appears to be something much, much darker: he's threatened to release the names of who is on the Epstein Pedo Island list and they don't want to be publically revealed and arrested and possibly jailed so they're taking off, and incl. Ellen DeGeneres(I call Ellen Degenerate) Tom Hanks, Rob Reiner, Rosie O' Donnell,Steven Spielberg,John Legend, Chrissy Tiegen, George Clooney, etc. so basically they've just "outed" themselves so now we all know who all the perverts are.

I also made these Tandoori chicken burgers and rice for dinner yesterday and they even came with a blessing too so not only were they made with love but also with a blessing, and Gravenhurst  near Muskoka got 140cm of snow and a highway was shut down, 60K people lost power and a State of Emergency was declared  and Buffalo got 6 feet of snow and on Wednesday we're supposed to get a system coming thru with 5-10 cm (our first real snow!) incl. blowing snow, and I heard someone here got car-jacked at a local gas station so it's NOT just in the big cities anymore now, and my hubby said he got Gladiator 2 up for me but it's "not the best quality" but he thinks it's in English( as long as it's in one of the 4 languages I know!) "or possibly Greek" and I told him I only know a few words in Greek and they're probably NOT in the movie! but he said they might be; it has a rating for strong language! HA!

I also still have that blinding headache and it kept me awake for 3 HRS during the night(it always seems worse laying down) and I bit the inside of my cheek again during my sleep too so likely had another seizure during the night again, and my hubby wanted the 17 YR old's passport (I keep up in the safe)to book their flights to BC ( he got a deal; the 2 of them for just 500$ and they just take carry-ons) and I asked why since it's domestic and not international and he says for ID (but I only ever travel international and always have my passport ,anyway) and with everyone meeting up in BC in Feb. for their late "Christmas" by-passing me is probably the whole idea in the first place as they know I have to stay behind to look after Buddy and I can't leave him home all alone for a week but truth be told I'd much rather  be here with him than be there with them anyway when they're always so mean to me and just leave me out anyway. He said they're taking one of those "budget" airlines again; Flair airlines, I call Flair Air or Flairlines.

I don't want to out-live my life.

Today's Thought.

Sunday Stuff.

....and to live.

😂😂

I love Ferris Bueller!

Still the best.

Tomorrow's not looking too likely,either.

So he knew about it all along and allowed the bullying? Santa is a real asshole!

Based.

The same for making fun of the Old Man Cough as kids.

Mein Gott im Himmel!!😧

Check Jim Jones for those of you who don't know.

Same for Christmas.

Why even bother having kids in the first place if you're not even going to raise them?

Be a rebel.

I also still have that splitting headache today(only worse!) and it even woke me up so it was a good thing I visited my mother yesterday(and I won't be able to next week as my hubby has to work on the weekend, too) and my BP is also really high so the question is do I have the headache due to my high BP or is  the high BP a reaction to the pain? I also feel nauseated with the pain, too. I also had this funny dream last night I was walking down this outdoor passageway and I could hear a kid speaking German to an outdoor vendor and I smiled and thought to myself that it was "nice to be surrounded by everyone speaking German again" and I also heard that the most hated Christmas song too is Madonna's Santa Baby so I guess I'm NOT the only one!!

We die many times emotionally first before we die physically.
