Joke For Today.

Christmas Past.

When I was a kid in the 70's and a teen in the 80's I remember Christmas trees looked like this. Ours did and both my Aunts' did. It was such a magical time then, Christmas as a kid. I remember how excited I always was waiting for it and the weeks and days leading up to it. It was always so exciting. I was so sneaky as well I'd wait until my mother left for work in the mornings and I'd carefully unwrap my presents left under the tree to take a sneak peak at what they were and then I'd meticulously re-wrap them up carefully again to cover up any trace of them being unwrapped in the first place but after a few years of this she somehow eventually found out and kept them at her locker at work from then on. Damn.

We also had coloured tinsel on our ceilings like the one seen here, as well as my Aunt. I loved it so much but you just can't find it anymore. I really miss my childhood so much. It was the happiest time of my life( except for the part where I was molested by a relative from age 4-12) until my whole world fell apart and came crashing down once the bullying in school started in Jr. High triggering the depression that would turn out to be a life-long struggle. I wish I could go back to the 1970's though and stay there forever. I was happy then until years of traumas later would forever destroy and break me. There are some wounds that just won't heal.

As well, tomorrow the 15 and 17 year olds are going up to Ottawa to visit the 19 YR old(who's away at school studying journalism) to go shopping for the big Black Friday sales at the mall. I made that mistake once when I was around 13. I went to the Boxing Day sales and it was so hot and crowded I nearly fainted. I never made that mistake ever again.

Wordless Wednesday,

Today's Thought.

The Santa Myth.

I remember when I was a kid I fell for the Santa Claus deception and how hurt ,stupid, and betrayed I felt once I found out that it was all fake, just a myth that all adults were in on. It was the first time I found out my mother had lied to me, purposely deceived me and I was heartbroken, crushed, and felt like such a fool. I really fell for it, I actually was dumb enough to believe it and then my whole world just fell apart all around me and I felt so cheated, so betrayed, How could she have kept lying to me all these years? Even as I got a bit older and started to have doubts my older cousin told me one Christmas morning that she actually saw little reindeer footprint marks on the snow on the roof so then I started to believe again because certainly she wouldn't lie to me; I looked up to her and trusted her and idolized her, and, afterall, she wasn't an adult, she was a teenager....

But I eventually found out the truth, somewhere around age 9 or 10 and I  felt so deceived....and then I proceeded to go around the school yard telling everyone I knew that it was a complete and utter hoax, a myth, just some story the adults made up to trick us, and I got into alot of trouble, but the truth had to be exposed afterall, and I didn't want any more kids to be deceived like I was. As for my own kids, I never wanted to deceive them and have them feel lied to like I was so I never told them the Santa myth. They still had stockings on Christmas filled with goodies but they always knew the honest truth where they came from and they knew right from the beginning that Santa was just a legend. I swore I wouldn't ruin my own kids' childhood by lying to them and having them believe in something and thinking it's true only later having to disclose it was a lie all along. What if they thought the same thing about God then, too, and weren't able to believe anything else that I said, thinking everything was a lie, too?

Funny as well: the Christmas song The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year there's a part that goes, it's the hap-happiest time of the year.... and the 11 year old thought it said, it's the half-happiest time of the year, and the 22 YR old's BF  and his family don't celebrate Christmas either, so coming here this year will be a whole new experience for him so I hope he enjoys it.

Chuckle For Today.

Christmas Trees.

So the kids said, Look, we put up the Christmas tree! Ha, ha, funny. Normally when the kids were all younger they and I would put the tree up together, as a family, but then as they got older they got bored of it and I got left stuck doing it all myself, except for last year when they surprised me by putting it up all themselves one night. This year I hope they do it again as with my health issues( that keep declining and getting worse day by day) I honestly just don't have the energy, strength, or stamina anymore. I even get out of breath just going up or down stairs.

This is also the tree the 17 YR old put up in her room.

and this is the tree the 15 and 17 YR olds put up in the hallway on the second floor. The 24 YR old might have helped, too.

My foot is also getting progressivly worse and now not only is the pain in my heel but has also moved up to the back of my calf now as well. I was just hoping if I waited long enough it would just go away on it's own as I really don't want to sit around for 6 HRS or so in the ER.

Musing For The Day.
