Look what I found in the fridge! The 24 YR old brought it home: a lobster! it brought back memories of my childhood: I can still remember I had this lobster claw that had a tiny piece of wood attached to it and I used to play with it, opening and closing up the claw and I was just fascinated with it. I kept it for as long as I could until it stank and I had to get rid of it due to the smell. That's what our entire kitchen smells like now with the discarded lobster shell: it reeks like vagina actually; that's exactly what the smell is like; now the smell permeates thru and it's just revolting. Good news, too: the 18 YR old won a 4000$ Scholarship for school!
It was sort of a test too when he ate the lobster, to see if he had any allergic reaction, like the oldest did when he had crab that time at the Chinese buffet. No one even thought there would be an issue as he's fine with lobster and shrimp, which are also shellfish, but within 20 minutes he got big blotchy red, itchy hives everywhere, starting on his face and then just exploding everywhere and he had to go to the ER for an allergic reaction. Who knew? I figured you're either allergic to shellfish( all shellfish) or you're not. Who knew you could be ok with some but not others? So, as he ate it and for awhile afterwards I monitored him for any reactions; hives, itchiness, hoarse throat, breathing issues, sick stomach, fever, but luckily nothing, he was ok. He half-joked that maybe he should just sit outside of the hospital and eat it there just in case.....allergies run in our family and the 18 YR old has a nut allergy and always has to carry an Epi-Pen with her everywhere she goes, for instance. The rest of us it's less so, like with dairy, citrus, berries, etc. and now with my IBS I can't eat pork anymore either.
I was sitting out the front porch and I saw this Mama squirrel (I could tell as she had giant teats a tell-tale sign of a recent birth) filling her new nest with leaves and it was amazing to watch; she's patiently go back and forth and grab a bunch of leaves, snapping them off with her sharp teeth and holding them in her mouth and the run along the branch and go back and forth to the nest and so on and on she went. She was smart, too; she didn't just take one leaf at a time either, but she's chew off an entire bunch of them at once and carry off the whole stem. I was really impressed. I also saw Papa squirrel run up to the nest too and even heard the small sounds of the little babies calling for her. They live in our tree right in front of our house. It was a fascinating thing to watch.Nature is amazing!
